Andy Disley Named North Mids RFU Senior Volunteer of the Year
On Thursday, 27 May, North Mids RFU held its annual awards event, hosted by Worcester Warriors. 15 nominees for Senior Club Volunteer of the Year were received from clubs across the region, including Birmingham, Solihull, Bromsgrove, Shrewsbury, Worcester… the list goes on.
Bridgnorth RFC’s very own Andy Disley won! Not a great surprise when you know what Andy has contributed over the years.
He has actively sought sponsorship for mini and senior club over many years. More importantly he has renovated and maintained the club in hour-upon-hour of his own time- free of charge. He has slept over-night as security in marquees, mended leaky taps, painted/mended the roof, cleaned/worked behind the bar, set up temporary bars – and all whilst juggling a successful business.
BRFC Club Chairman hailed Andy as community-spirited “clubman”. Always ask a busy person…ask Andy!
Congratulations Andy!

12 Bridgnorth Players in Worcester Warriors' Elite Player Development Group (EPDG)
Following significant investment from highly motivated Bridgnorth coaches, club officials, sponsors, volunteers and parents Bridgnorth RFC now have 12 players playing at the elite player development groups at Worcester warriors premiership club. This is a testament to all the hard work and effort put in by the community that helps support our club.
Three of the players, Matthew Masters, Edward Taylor and Jacob Wilkes played for the Warriors Under 16’s on Saturday. They were winning 12-0 in the first half but managed to hold off a strong come back from Northampton Saints who were fielding a number of England representatives -beating them 12-5 in a home fixture. They have been invited to attend a forwards training session headed by England U18 Coach, Peter Walton, following their match performance.

Top Coach Joins All Blacks
Bridgnorth Rugby Club have confirmed the appointment of Richard "Woody" Woods as First Team coach. Woods started playing rugby at university and then turned out for local teams in Bedford before moving to London for a teaching career. He started coaching while playing for Wasps and became involved with their junior set-up. He became mentor to the England women’s RFUW which set up an academy for younger players. Woods progressed to assistant coach with the academy and then became involved in the women’s home and away international matches. He was promoted to head coach of England women’s A XV which won the Six Nations A championships before being invited to coach the women on their first tour, to South Africa, when they were unbeaten.A career move to Merseyside and an appointment to a senior position meant that Woods had less time to coach, but he continued to play with local sides, training with the Waterloo club.
Woods has now taken up his Bridgnorth appointment following a move to the Midlands on his promotion to deputy head of Sandwell Academy. “I am delighted to be involved with an aspirational club with pool of talent of both young and more experienced players, which is a real draw,” he said. “I am looking forward to the challenge of finishing this season on winning and in top the half of the league and building for the future next year and push for honours. The club has a real pool of talent from new players to old heads and from what I have seen in training and matches so far there is an opportunity to build from a position of strength.”
