Bridgnorth 10 Old Hales5

Bridgnorth 25 Warley0

Bridgnorth u-10’s played superbly in winning this 3-way mini-tournament. The hosts defeated Old Hales in the first game thanks to two tries by man of the match Zach Xiourouppa. After conceding early on, the front row of George Billington, Giles Themans and Fraser Whitehouse worked hard to provide a solid base for the All Blacks to build on. This gave quality ball for Robin Partridge and match captain Jack Sanders to use and also enabled wingers James Morgan and Will James to exploit the space available. Aaran Darley almost added to the score with a jinking run and Bridgnorth had scrum-half Ollie Jones to thank late on for two crucial try saving tackles as Bridgnorth held on for a deserved win.

Warley then beat Old Hales 15-5 to set up the tournament decider with the hosts and it was the All Blacks who started quickly with a try by Jack Hodgson following a superb run. This was soon followed by two tries for man of the match Ben Barclay whose pace was too much for the visitors. Scrum half Huw Headworth provided good ball throughout for Hedley Horler, Arron Turner and Finbarr Burbridge to use. This was a result of the strong forward play by Jaxon Davies, Miles Gough and Sean Jasper, who tackled very strongly in the game. Match captain James Hale also crossed for two tries as his pace was too much for Warley to handle. So the hosts ran out comfortable winners, having scored five tries without conceding.

Both matches were well refereed by Jake Davies and the All Blacks are now looking forward with confidence to the Telford Festival which will be their last weekend of rugby this season.

Sunday 13th April

Under 14s

Bridgnorth Under 14's 33 - Moseley 12

We're There !!! Bridgnorth All Black U14's Make it to the Final .

It was a beautiful Sunday morning that welcomed the eagerly awaited North Mids Cup Semi final between Moseley and Bridgnorth U14's. With the game having been postponed last week due to snow it was to the delight of the visiting supporters that Moseley had a selection of pitches available including an artificial pitch which was offered by the Moseley coach and quickly declined by Bridgnorth as there is nothing like the real thing !!

The game started with true Bridgnorth Fashion - eager to prove their dominance - demonstrating their "recognised" physical approach to every game, securing good ball in both Rucks and mauls. With both forwards and backs giving 100% it was the visitors who after 10 minutes scored from a well worked move allowing Ellis Turnbull to side step the home side Fly half and power his way under the posts. Moseley then returned straight from the kick off and after great vision from their man of the match no 10 placed the ball into the hands of their winger who managed to wriggle out of a tackle and score in the corner for a converted try.

The game then developed into an exciting and nail biting half with Bridgnorths Jacob Wilkes forcing his way over the line with Moseley returning the score just before halftime - completing a well fought first half with the home team leading 12- 10 at the break.

Following an inspiring half time talk by the Bridgnorth coach - the All blacks finally woke up closing down Moseley's "Danger man" fly half and allowing the Bridgnorth forwards to take control of all parts of play, slowly wearing the opposition down and secured ball feeding the backs, threatening the Home teams line on more than one occasion, finally braking the defence allowing Louis Chauldron to cross the Line with Ellis Turnbull converting. Not willing to relent the advantage Bridgnorth now were in their element with forwards and backs working well, Moseley had no answer to the pressure and another try was inevitable - this time it was Joshua Davis who collected a rocket pass from his fly half to outpace his opposite number to the line.

With the home teams heads now dropping Bridgnorth turned the screw further allowing Jacob Baker to score a decisive try ending the match.

Bridgnorth coaches wish to thank all of the travelling supporters who outnumbered the home teams 2 to 1 - this again proves that you don’t have to be a National Division side to demonstrate the commitment, and skill to make it to a Cup final - something a Bridgnorth Junior side hasn’t done for some years,

Bridgnorth now face Worcester on Sunday the 27th at Luctonians RFC - kick off 11am - all supporters would be welcome as this is a great opportunity for the local community to get behind a "home" grown team who have nothing to prove but everything to win!!

Under 9’s

Bridgnorth 2 Kidderminster 3

Bridgnorth 1 Kidderminster 2

It seems unfortunate that we have to report two losses however they were well fought losses. Going to a team that has a reputation as one of the best in the group, having beaten Droitwich, and only having ten men in our team (no subs) to say it seemed a daunting task is an under statement.

Starting with a fragmented team of players, some of whom haven’t made training for a while and Olly back from injury and holidays they put up one of there best team performances yet. The first game had two excellent tries scored by Edward and Ryan who, once released by the forwards, were uncatchable. The rucking and mauling of Peanut, Jordan and Josh just showed that if your technique's right it doesn’t matter how big the opposing side are and with some excellent big tackles by Jordan and Peanut, Kidderminster knew it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. It's unfortunate to lose by one try but it was a truly inspired performance. There certainly seemed to be a few dubious calls by the referee, so Andy treated the boys to a lesson on what not do (argue with the ref). Slapped wrists, lesson learnt.

The second game was always going to be hard because there were some very tired little legs out there due to the lack of substitutes but, yet again, Bridgnorth stepped up to the plate and showed that they had listened during the training sessions and weren’t about to be pushed about by a very confident and well organised Kidderminster side.

The only try was scored by Jordan Draper but it's fair to say that it was a magnificent team effort with Jordan setting up the initial maul 5 metres from the try line and the rest of the team playing their parts in a very rough maul to allow Jordan to score one of our best set up tries this season.
