As one of the oldest Boroughs in Shropshire, Bridgnorth is steeped in history, the view from the Castle Walk described by no-less than King Charles as the ‘finest in all my Kingdom’.
The town, more recently voted one of the ten most desirable places to live in the UK, is actually two towns. High Town is characterized by its ruined castle, two commanding churches and the ancient Town Hall in the middle of a busy High Street. Low Town is dominated by the river Severn, Severn Park and a host of pubs and restaurants. The two communities are joined by the steepest funicular railway in England and innumerable flights of steep steps.
Bridgnorth is very conveniently located, with Wolverhampton, Stourbridge and Kidderminster all within 15 miles, Telford 12 miles and Shrewsbury just over 20 miles. Central Birmingham is only 25 miles too.
These excellent lines of communication were not lost on others. It was recently revealed that, had Hitler successfully invaded Britain in 1942, he would have chosen Bridgnorth as his Headquarters!
So. Bridgnorth’s a great place to live, to have a headquarters – and to play Rugby. Away games are no problem!!
