The Marauders faced their most challenging game of the season this week. Through injury and unforeseen events they went away only able to field a team of 14 players.
Play started well for the Marauders, as weather conditions forced the majority of play to stay within the forwards.
However, as the winds died down, Aston were able to take full advantage of the fact that Bridgnorth were lacking in their backs and a quick kick deep into the Marauders territory resulted in Aston breaking through a gap where Bridgnorth’s 15th man would have been, to score an unconverted try.
The tussle for control continued up to half time where the score remained 5-0 to Aston.
The start of the second half carried on much as the first left off. Yet, the weather conditions favoured a kicking game and having used it to score previously, Aston wasted little time in increasing their lead, kicking deep and running in for a further three tries, two of which were converted.
The Marauders however did not at any point bow their heads in defeat and on a number of occasions powered deep into the Aston half, but without the extra player they were unable to make the final push in creating a score.
Ultimately Bridgnorth fought valiantly in a game that was inevitably going to be hard even if they had a full squad out.
